When you think about a weight loss diet, you often only associate calorie counting on your food intake but did you know that what you’re drinking can add hundreds of calories that you may not even think about! A hot milky coffee from a coffee shop can often come to over 300 calories and even ‘healthy’ smoothies packed with vegetables and fruit may be a few hundred calories to your daily intake too. By making small changes to your drink intake, you could make all the difference in the world to your weight loss diet. Here are The Slimming Clinic’s top tips for drink swaps. Could you save calories today, just by swapping your fluids?
Wine
Wine is really high in calories – but you probably know that! At around 250 calories for a large glass of white wine it is unfortunately not conducive with a weight loss diet. A whole bottle of wine is the equivalent of a large meal! If you’re keen to have an alcoholic drink, swapping wine for gin and slimline tonic and you’ll save around 170 calories and could leave you feeling a little less worse for wear the next day. Additionally, when you are taking prescription weight loss medication as part of your online weight loss programme with The Slimming Clinic. we advise you do not consume alcohol.
Milky/Syrup-y Coffees
We know that sometimes its nice to indulge in a milky, sweet coffee treat from your favourite high street coffee chain. As long as it is just sometimes! But when you’re looking for the caffeine hit on a more regular basis, it is probably worth swapping to a black coffee, or a coffee with a dash of skimmed milk. If you can’t resist the sugary hit you get from the syrup, make sure to ask for sugar free!
Fizzy Drinks
Most people know that when they are on a weight loss diet, it is probably best to avoid sugar-laden fizzy drinks. Fizzy drinks do not have the best reputation in the weight loss sector and for good reason! With one can of coke having NINE teaspoons of sugar in, they just aren’t great for you! So if you’re a regular fizzy drinker, try opting for the diet or sugar-free versions or, if you’re being really good, try a flavoured sparkling water! These tend to have almost non-existent calories and are much better for you!
Hot Chocolate
Who doesn’t love getting their hands around a warming hot chocolate on a freezing cold day? There is little more comforting that the warm, sweetness of a hot chocolate, that’s for sure. But at 200 calories a mug, unfortunately, it makes having regular hot chocs a thing of the past if you’re trying to lose weight. If you want the sweet kick and need that chocolate hit, swap that full fat, rich hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream and unnecessary calories for an Options hot chocolate sachet. With only 40 calories and plenty of flavours to choose from you’re only missing out on calories and not on flavour.
