It can be easy to come up with excuses to not exercise when the weather is cold. Whether it’s not wanting to leave the warmth of your home or a case of simply not feeling motivated to get moving, this article has some ideas on how you can stay active and fit in the chilly weather.
- If you’re not keen on leaving the warmth of your house to go out for a run or walking to the gym, you can still stay active and get a great workout at home! From free workout videos on YouTube to exercise DVD’s or even just having a 10 minute boogie to the radio in the kitchen whilst waiting for dinner to cook, it is possible to keep active at home.
- Has the cold weather got you feeling unmotivated to exercise? Why not try shaking things up and join a new exercise class or take up a winter sport? This can be something like ice-skating or skiing, or a new dance class to make cardio more fun.
- Keep reminding yourself that Summer bodies are made in the Winter. There’s no magic way to get your body into shape instantly. These things take time, and the best time to get yourself beach body ready is to work it in the Winter! Try putting up some pictures of your ideal body goals to remind you each day why you’re on this fitness journey.
- Get in touch with your inner child and just go out and play! This won’t feel like exercise but you can get a great cardio session from playing a game of tag in your local park or back garden. Gather a group of friends or the kids and relive your childhood playground fun together, even if it’s only once a week. This will give you a chance to switch off and just have some good old fashioned fun whilst staying active.
- Remember, every little bit of movement and activity counts, so try not to feel disheartened if you haven’t been able to get a workout in during the day. Even if you’re just cleaning the house or taking a brisk walk to the shops, you’re getting your body moving and staying active.
