Who says you can’t be healthy and have fun this Christmas? Here are some activities to keep you fit and healthy this festive season, so you can treat yourself a little bit more!
Ice Skating
Not only is ice skating a fun, social (and often hilarious) event, it is also a really great way of exercising. You can burn 300-650 calories an hour, depending on how much you skate. It is a really good form of cardio and a great way to build up your endurance for other sports. It also builds up leg muscles and helps with balance. Ice skating is something you can continue to do throughout the year, as many cities have indoor ice rinks.
Decorations
Getting the house ready for Christmas is a workout in itself. From putting up the tree to sending cards, the decorations get you working all parts of your body, especially your brain when it comes to untangling those fairy lights. Make sure you get yourself involved with all aspects of decorating this year, so you can reward yourself later on with a glass of wine!
Carol Singing
This option might not seem like it’s very healthy, but singing does more than you think! The proper way to sing is from your stomach, using your diaphragm to push air up to your vocal chords. Using your diaphragm to sing promotes a healthy lymphatic system, which goes on to promote a healthy immune system. You don’t have to sound like Beyonce to receive the health benefits.
Dancing
Whilst most exercise can be quite boring, dancing is a great way to keep fit and hang out with friends. Take full advantage of the numerous Christmas parties and get your dancing shoes on! This way you can feel less guilty about any extra treats you may pick up at the party.
Try out a winter sport
Sports such as skiing or snowboarding are really fun and a good way to keep fit. Don’t worry, you don’t need to break the bank by booking a chalet in the Alps, there’s plenty of indoor skiing centres all over the country. You could pick up a new hobby and give yourself an excuse to go on holiday.
