Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, snuggling up on the sofa by the fire, watching Home Alone with a hot chocolate. With all the events, visits from family and friends and tempting treats, people use it as the perfect excuse to avoid exercise. Don’t fall into the trap – below are some fun and exciting exercise ideas to keep you staying active this festive season:
- Whilst putting up the Christmas tree as a family lay down with your feet at the base and hold decorations in your hand and do a sit up to put them on the tree for the lower part of the branches. This idea can be a great laugh with friends and family, with even the little ones able to get involved.
- 25 days of Squatmas – start on the 1st of December with 5 squats and then each day progress by 5 extra squats each day until the 25th December. If you don’t have much time for the gym, this is the perfect idea for you. It can be squeezed into any time of the day and depending on your fitness and time available, you can increase/decrease the amount of squats you do per day.
- Play a Christmas playlist and every time you hear the words Christmas, snow, Santa etc you have to do 10 star jumps, or something along those lines. Multi-tasking at its finest. Instead of sitting around listening to Christmas music why not jump around every time you hear certain words. This is great fun for all the family and will pump up your adrenaline for the day.
- 12 days of Christmas – choose 12 exercises and do 12 repetitions every day for 12 days in December. Similar to the 25 days of Squatmas however you can choose a variety of exercises and the intensity will increase each day. Why not check out Facebook on each of the 12 days of Christmas as we will be providing an idea for an exercise each day.
- Every time you open a present you have to run up and down the stairs. The more presents you open the more you have to run! This is a great way to get your adrenaline pumping and is great fun for all the family.
Enjoy these fun fitness ideas over the Christmas period and make sure you keep fit and healthy whilst still enjoying yourself… Happy Holidays.
