Top 5 Weight Loss Games

Weight loss doesn’t have to always be tedious and boring – it can in fact be fun! While it may sound silly, physical games are a great way to get your heart rate pumping and burn calories; and even better if done in a group! Read on to find a list of four weight loss games for groups.

1. Treasure Hunt

The aim of a treasure hunt is for one person, aka the leader to hide clues and get the rest of the group to find the ‘treasure’. While they are often organised for children as a fun activity for exploration, it is a great adrenaline pumping experience for people of all age groups! Before embarking on this scavenger hunt, it’s necessary to choose a location. While treasure hunts can be played indoors, we recommend playing somewhere outdoors such as a hiking trail. With a larger ground to cover, players will have their heart rate pumping in no time. In order to play, you must split participants into teams, each with their own leader. Clues are then hidden in the chosen location, which as mentioned, could be indoors or outdoors. Once players find a clue, it then leads them on to the next clue. Racing against each other, the teams search for the different ‘treasures’; and for the team that makes it to the finish line first, a reward/prize can be given. To challenge the players further, adding a time limit can make the game even more competitive and is sure to get those calories burning.

2. Olympic Games

Hosting your own Olympic games is a fun way to stay active whilst having some competitive fun at the same time! Suitable for larger groups, we recommend splitting participants into teams that compete in a variety of pre-arranged events such as running, tug-of-war, hula hooping, obstacle courses and more. Once the games are complete, having a prize for winners who come in 1st, 2nd and 3rd is always a nice touch. If this sounds like the idea for you, then don’t forget to host an opening and closing ceremony in true Olympic fashion!

3. Adult Tag

Tag is a game we all played growing up and then suddenly stopped. Who says that adults can’t play tag? That’s right, nobody! If you’re having your friends over for a day of fun, then adult tag is the perfect game to let loose and burn those calories! The aim of the game is to have one person as the ‘attacker’. It is the attacker's job to run around and try and tap other players – if they succeed, whomever they tap next is now the new ‘attacker’. Things to take into consideration are the location of play and any areas you wish to implement as ‘safe zones’ from the attacker. If you want to unleash your inner child, then tag is the game for you!

4. Family game of Rounders

If your family are the sporty type, then Rounders could be the game for you! Easy to assemble and understand, the game caters to everyone; young and old. If you never played Rounders in school when you were young, we will break down the simple rules of play. The game is played between two teams – one team essentially bats whilst the other bowls.  The bowler bowls the ball to the batter who hits the ball. The batter then sprints to as many posts as possible before the opposing team returns the ball to touch the post the batter is heading for. Depending on which post the batter ends up at, depends on the score given. Normally, from purchasing a Rounders kit, all instructions and rules of play will be included.Rounders is certainly the perfect game to get those endorphins pumping!

5. Dance Battle

Turn up the music and host a group dance-off! This is not only fun but also a brilliant form of cardio that improves coordination and balance. You can set themes, use props, or even follow dance fitness videos like Zumba or Just Dance. Whether you compete solo or in teams, dancing burns serious calories, and boosts your mood too.

Why Gamifying Your Weight Loss Journey Works

Gamifying weight loss taps into motivation, accountability and fun. Turning physical activity into a challenge or competition distracts from the idea of “exercise” and instead reframes it as play. It also:

  • Keeps you more consistent and engaged
  • Helps build social support through teamwork or competition
  • Offers instant feedback and mini achievements to keep you motivated

Studies even show that people are more likely to stick to physical routines when they include game-like elements. It’s not about how “serious” the workout is, it’s about enjoying it enough to keep going.

Not Into Games? You’ve Got Other Options

If you’re someone who doesn’t like games, don’t worry, there are many other ways to lose weight that don’t require chasing clues or playing rounders. Structured weight loss programmes that include expert-led support around movement, nutrition and mindset can be just as effective, and often more tailored to your lifestyle.

At The Slimming Clinic, we offer medically guided weight loss programmes that support you from every angle. Whether you’re more comfortable walking, swimming, or just want a clear plan with accountability, we’re here to help.
