Frequently Asked Weight Loss Questions & Answers

  • Am I overweight?

One way to work out whether you are overweight or obese is to work out your Body Mass Index (BMI). If your BMI is on the higher end of the scale, it can lead to health risks in the future. In order to lower your BMI, it is suggested that you modify your diet and lifestyle. For advice on how to do this, you can book a one-to-one weight loss consultation with one of our doctors who will discuss the best programme for you. Start by checking your BMI using our online BMI calculator

  • What is the General Pharmaceutical Council?

The General Pharmaceutical Council GPhC, is the regulatory body for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy premises in England, Scotland, and Wales. Its main role is to protect, promote, and maintain the health, safety, and well-being of the public by ensuring that pharmacy professionals are appropriately trained, qualified, and conduct themselves according to set standards. The GPhC sets standards for education and training, enforces professional conduct guidelines, and investigates complaints about registrants. They ensure that the quality of pharmacy services meets the required standards to ensure safe and effective care for patients.

  • Is medical weight loss safe?

Yes, our weight loss medications are only prescribed after a thorough health screening to check that you are suitable for the medication. We only prescribe safe and effective medications.

  • Do I have to exercise whilst taking weight loss medication?

Increasing your activity levels is proven to improve your general health and well-being and we do encourage some movement alongside a healthier diet and the medication. We understand that for some, the thought of exercising can be daunting! But don’t worry, we’re not expecting you to run marathons! We will work alongside you to find the best way for you to get moving, no matter your fitness starting point.

  • Do I have to change my diet whilst on weight loss medication?

Whilst the medications work with you to help control your cravings, we do encourage you to adopt a healthy eating plan alongside them to help you get sustainable results. When you start your treatment we can work with you to advise you on dietary replacements and provide advice on how to make sure you don’t sabotage your weight loss journey.
