Gemma Romsey's story
Weight Lost: 6 stone 10 pounds
"Before, I felt like my life motto with food is that 'if it isn't nailed down then I will eat it', but since losing weight, I make better choices and don't have to think about what I am eating because the medication has taught me to make the right choices including portion sizes and generally healthier foods. The staff at Bournemouth The Slimming Clinic is so lovely and friendly and always willing to help and offer advice if needed, which is more than appreciated with trying to maintain the weight loss."
I love food so much but unfortunately it really doesn't love me, I only have to look at a bar of chocolate to gain weight. I know I have always been larger than others even when I was growing up but never did anything to change this. I would hear friends and family say to me 'you have such a lovely face' but all I thought was 'I know, shame about the rest'. Because of this I have never had any confidence in myself and often cried in the shop changing rooms because of how I looked and felt. I have tried to diet for so many of my teenage years but found it so hard and would give up after a while and soon the weight piled on until I reached 20st 2lbs and a size 26. I also found out that I had PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) due to my weight. I was told by the doctors that I could reduce the symptoms but they will never completely go away. Then, I met my now husband when I was at my biggest and decided that I needed to change because I thought 'who would want to be seen with me?'. So after trying yet another slimming club I managed to lose a good amount of weight but as usual it soon crept back on once I stopped going.
I decided that before I went beyond 18st 9lbs again, I had to do something else as me and my husband want to think about starting a family and having PCOS isn't going to help. I was looking on Facebook and a friend posted how well she had done at The Slimming Clinic and she truly does look amazing, so I quickly messaged her asking her for all the details on how she has done so well. After she had answered all my questions and told me all I needed to know, I knew that I had to book my free consultation with The Slimming Clinic and I haven't looked back since. When I started taking the medication I was a little apprehensive if it would work or not, but it really does. I didn't get the overwhelming cravings for food I really enjoy and I found it much easier than I initially thought, which made it a lot more enjoyable. I do still eat my favourite foods but only on one evening a week (treat night!) and eat in moderation and this keeps me on plan. Before, I felt like my life motto with food is that 'if it isn't nailed down then I will eat it', but since losing weight, I make better choices and don't have to think about what I am eating because the medication has taught me to make the right choices including portion sizes and generally healthier foods. The staff at Bournemouth The Slimming Clinic is so lovely and friendly and always willing to help and offer advice if needed, which is more than appreciated with trying to maintain the weight loss. Especially because, for as long as I've known, I have either been gaining weight and then trying to lose it in a loop. To help me stay on track, I have referred back to the idea of keeping a food diary so I have to make the conscious effort to think about what I am eating again. I now weigh 13st 6lbs and I don't think I have ever seen this weight. The nice thing is, is that I now love to go on shopping trips and trying new styles of clothes, in a size 14!

An even bigger achievement from losing weight is that I had a blood test after being at The Slimming Clinic for 5 months and I have proven the doctors wrong and I no longer have PCOS ( my hormones have returned to normal). Now, I look forward to what the future holds with my new knowledge, relationship with food and confident self. And hopefully we'll be able to start a family of our own at some point all thanks to The Slimming Clinic. To say I am proud of myself is an understatement. Thank you.
How much did you weigh at your heaviest and how much do you weigh now?
At my heaviest I was 20st 2lbs and now I weigh 13st 6lbs.
What are your three best dieting tips you’d like to share?
-Start a new hobby to keep yourself busy.
-I have a treat one day a week to stop me wanting certain foods.
-Take lots of photos through your journey so that you can look back and see how far you have come.
What are the best things you have found about losing weight?
General improvement in my health and being able to enjoy shopping. My confidence has been found!!!
What food did you eat on an average day before you lost weight?
It was more the case of what I didn't eat on an average day. All food that I shouldn't have, I had and far too much of it. Now I just limit those items to once a week.
Was there a point where you realized, “I’m really going to do it this time”? How motivating was that?
I have suffered from PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) due to my weight but me and my husband want to think about children this year and the only thing to help was to lose weight. Sure enough after a blood test 5 months after starting with The Slimming Clinic, I had lost enough weight to reverse the PCOS
and for my hormone levels to have return to normal. That was the moment that I realised.
How do you deal with boredom in your dieting program?
I look on Pinterest if I need new ideas and I have also been crocheting to stop me thinking of food.
What would you say to someone who wanted to lose a large amount of weight?
Set yourself small targets to reach for instead of your overall target and stick with it, it will be hard but definitely worth it.
Now that you’ve lost the weight, how do you plan to keep it off?
I will continue to go for walks with friends and family and remind myself of how far I have come and how I feel now compared to before and not wanting to return to that.
What food do you now eat on an average day?
I eat a lot of uncomplicated meals that are easy to throw together but also tasty with lots of variety and to also follow the idea of having smaller portions and drinking lots of water.
