Missed Mounjaro Dose or Other Weight Loss Medication?
How to Safely Manage A Missed Dose Of Mounjaro, Wegovy, or Other Weekly GLP-1 Medications
What if I forget to take my weight loss medication?
Missing a dose of weight loss medication is far more common than most people expect — especially once the initial routine settles and life gets busy again. The key is not to double dose.
Travel, illness, changes to daily schedules, side effects, or simply left your Mounjaro injection can all disrupt even the most well-intentioned plans.
What matters is not perfection, but knowing how to respond calmly and correctly. One missed dose does not mean failure, and it does not undo progress — but repeated missed doses without support can make treatment feel inconsistent or frustrating.
This is why longer-term success with weight loss medication often depends on having the right support systems in place, not just the prescription itself. Structure, reminders, education, and accountability can make the difference between stopping and continuing confidently.
Dr Charlotte Norton explains how to catch up. Her advice applies to all weekly GLP-1 injection brands.

Can I just take it when I remember?
To an extent, yes, but timing still matters. If it's been more than four days since your scheduled injection, it’s generally recommended to skip the missed dose entirely and resume your next one on the usual day. What’s more important than catching up is not taking doses too close together. Make sure there’s at least five full days between injections to avoid increased risk of nausea, vomiting, or other side effects.
What if I miss two weeks or more?
If you’ve gone more than 14 days without your weight loss injection, that’s a longer break and might require restarting at a lower dose. The reason? Your body may have adjusted to not having the medication in your system, and jumping back in with your usual dose could trigger uncomfortable side effects. In this situation, your clinician will likely recommend stepping back a dose level to ease you back in safely. The principles are the same across brands: longer gaps = more care needed when resuming.
What does the science say about missed doses?
UK guidance and the NHS supports the following approach:
- Take the missed dose within 4 days if possible
- Never inject doses too close together (minimum 5 days apart)
- Consult your prescriber if more than 2 weeks have passed
The guidance also highlight the importance of maintaining a consistent weight loss dose schedule. GLP-1 medications help regulate blood sugar and appetite, so missing doses or delaying treatment can reduce their effectiveness temporarily.
What should I do now?
If you’ve only missed your dose by a day or two, you’re probably fine to take it late and continue your regular schedule. If more time has passed or you’re unsure how to resume, get in touch with a medical expert. At The Slimming Clinic, we offer direct access to doctors who can assess your situation and advise the best next steps, whether that’s a dose adjustment or simply reassurance.
Final Thoughts
Missing a dose isn’t the end of the world, but knowing how to respond is crucial. Whether you’re taking Mounjaro, Wegovy, or other weekly GLP-1 medications, following this simple approach keeps your treatment on track and helps avoid setbacks.
