Gemma Tonks‘s story
Weight Lost: 3 Stone*
I feel much better and healthier now I’ve lost weight. I’ve signed up to do the Race for Life and I wouldn’t of attempted to do that when I was bigger because I just didn’t have the energy.*
I have never been a petite size. I’m rather curvy and most of my family are aswell. I’d sometimes get really down and just felt I looked awful, especially when I saw myself in photos, so I’d just had enough and wanted to feel and look better. My downfalls were always bread, biscuits and crisps so I always tried different types of diets and never stuck to them because it’s too much of a routine and I got bored too quickly. After my second child I really didn’t lose much weight afterwards. I was huge whilst pregnant and kept the belly so I was advised by a friend to make an appointment with The Slimming Clinic and have a chat with them about how I felt. The staff there are fantastic they really advise you in the right direction and at the start it was just so easy, it’s slightly more challenging now but I still want to lose more!
I feel much better and healthier now I’ve lost weight. I’ve signed up to do the Race for Life and I wouldn’t of attempted to do that when I was bigger because I just didn’t have the energy. I’m maintaining the weight well, it creeps back and forth give or take a couple of pounds, but the most important factor is that I don’t want to be really big again. I’m happy to stay as I am but ideally would like to lose another stone.
What was your starting weight and what are you now?
Before I joined I was 15 stone and I’m now 12 stone.
What are your three best dieting tips you’d like to share?
1. Keep yourself busy.
2. Buy cook books and learn to make different things.
3. Throw out all old clothes so you don’t feel you can slip back in to them.
What would you say to someone who wanted to lose a large amount of weight?
If someone told me they wanted to lose a lot of weight my advice to them would be to be patient, confident and sensible… If you know you’re out for a meal with friends, enjoy it! Just take a look at the kids menu so your portion is smaller and rather than getting a dessert just have one sneaky bite of someone elses. Also, fill yourself up with water/low calorie drinks but avoid wine!

And good luck! 🙂
How do you deal with boredom in your dieting program?
I don’t tend to get that bored with the dieting programme because I concentrate more on portion sizes.
Are there any foods that you completely avoid and never eat?
I completely avoid bread and butter and limit myself to very small portions of anything else.
